How to Avoid Cracked Heels

How to Avoid Cracked Heels

Cracked heels are a common ailment in both men and women. It generally affects people who have very dry skin, are overweight, have to stand for long hours at a stretch or walk barefoot. Cracked heals must be treated immediately for protection against ulcers and infections. Here we list for you the ways and means to avoid cracked heels.

Use Moisturizer – Apply moisturizing creams and lotions on each heel regularly after bath and before going to bed. Make sure that the moisturizer is oil based so that it stays on skin for prolonged hours and provides extra hydration.

Use Pumice Stone – Brush the soles of your feet regularly with a pumice stone or a foot filer. This helps to reduce the calluses and thick skin on the feet. Do this especially when the skin of the feet gets dry.

Use Sea Salt Scrubs – Add sea salt to the scrub you are using for your feet. For best results use only oil based salt scrubs. While the salt will remove the dead and dry skin cells, the oil will keep feet moisturized.

Wear Correct Shoes – Wearing the proper shoe is very important. Make sure that your shoes have heel support. Add insoles once the shoe gets old and starts wearing out to give extra support. Try to wear socks every time.

Never Walk Barefoot – Your feet need protection; do not expose them to the harsh grounds you walk on. Especially avoid walking barefoot on concrete, tiled and wooden surfaces.

Get Pedicures – Visit your nearest salon and enroll for a pedicure session at least once a month. This advice is especially meant for aging people who are diabetic. Medical studies prove that diabetes patients stand a higher risk of catching infection through cracked heels.

Home Spa Treatment – Collect lukewarm water in a tub. Add shampoo to the water. Soak your feet for 20 minutes while gently rubbing heels with pumice stone when the skin gets soft. Do not use razors even if the skin is too thick on your feet. Allow dry skin to slough off. Wash and dry feet and apply body butter for softer and smoother heels.

Water Treatment – Most often, dehydration or dry skin are the causes of cracked heels. Drink plenty of water, increasing the intake during summers to make skin moist and keep the natural moisture in the body locked. Also use humidifiers at home if drinking water does not help to prevent drying up of skin in very arid areas.

Use Fruit Masks – Prepare pulps from fruits such as papaya and pineapple and apply on feet. These fruits contain organic alpha hydroxy enzyme that can cure cracked heels effectively.

Seek Medical Help – Visit a podiatrist if all the above methods fail to cure cracked heels.

7 Beauty Tips for Lovely Legs

7 Beauty Tips for Lovely Legs

A great pair of legs is a wonderful asset in the beauty stakes but what do you do if you have less than perfect pins? Here are 7 tips for making the most of your legs:-
1. Keep them Smooth and Hair Free

Nothing looks worse than hairy legs on a girl so don't be caught out and choose a hair removal method to keep yours smooth and hair free all year long. The secret is in creating a routine so you never forget. Book regular leg waxing appointments, shave your legs every few days in the shower or have a regular date with your epilator. If you hate the routine and have the budget try laser leg hair removal. It comes at a price , but what bliss not having to think about this chore again! If you find salon visits inconvenient there are are a couple of solutions which will give you permanent hair removal at home - a machine called a "One Touch" which is a home electrolysis solution and the Silk'n home laser hair removal machine.

2. Give Your Legs Some Color

If your legs are pale and sickly looking, give them a bit of color. Choose some of the new bare leg stockings, hold ups or panty hose available which will smooth out the color nicely without looking too covered up. Or use a bit of fake tan or leg make up for a temporary color boost.
3. Keep on the Move

Legs need exercise to look good. Improve yours by walking, swimming, cycling or stepping every day for 30 minutes or so. You'll tone thm up and lose a little fat too.

4. Give Them a Massage

Give your legs a regular massage to keep the circulation going and prevent fluid build up and cellulite. Apply oil in a circular motion right from your ankles up to your thighs to help blood flow and lymphatic drainage.
5. A Bit of Lift

Legs suffer because the circulation is always having to fight gravity. Spend 15 minutes every day lying with your feet above the level of your head, No need to do a yoga shoulder or head stand (although you could) just prop your feet up on pillows and enjoy a break with a good boo or your favorite TV show.

6. Add some Moisture

The skin on your legs can easily get dry and flaky especially around shins, knees and ankles. Apply a rich moisturising lotion once or twice a day after your showe and you'll soon see an improvement in your skin.

7. Sit Right

Try not to sit with your legs crossed over at the knee as this can cause swelling and varicose veins. I know it looks good to sit like that but a way which is just as elegant is to sit with your legs together and pointing to one side rather than vertical. Think Audrey Hepburn in her shift dress and pearls.
