Four Poster Beds
Turn your bedroom into a haven of romance with the help of a four-poster bed.
A four-poster bed may sound too grand and out-of-reach, but in reality it is not that impractical. After all, the bed doesn't have to be any bigger - all you really need are four posters on all four corners. Four-poster beds are traditionally found in large bedrooms, but you could consider putting up this bed in a smaller room if you stick to straight lines and avoid a carved piece.
Contemporary
It is a misconception that four-poster beds only look good with traditional decor. You also have great modern and contemporary options.
If you do up your room right, the bed can make the room look incredibly cozy, and can transform it into the perfect sanctuary. Although there's a lot you can do to decorate a large bedroom, when you have a bedroom that's just large enough to fit a double bed and a closet, there's not a whole lot you can do by way of decor to make it look very inviting. A four-poster bed can be just the key.
Medieval
Give your room a wonderfully medieval Arabic flavour by placing a lot of rich cushions in red or earthy tones by the head of your bed. Don't forget to add a few bolsters. Opt for a net in a single shade, and during the day keep the net tied to the posters. Make sure the curtains are the same shade as the net. Avoid prints entirely, since you in any case will have a lot happening in the room without needing prints.
Add Arabic accessories like an antique lantern to further enhance the Middle Eastern look.
Go in for a light coloured bedspread so you don't feel quite as overwhelmed. You could then add a throw every now and again to infuse more colour whenever you feel the need.
Practical
A four-poster bed is also a great option if you have a lot of mosquitoes in your home. The net keeps mosquitoes from biting you through the night, and you are also saved from having to inhale chemical fumes through the net in an attempt to keep mosquitoes at bay. So, not only does the four-poster bed look romantic and cozy, it also has its practical advantages.
Usage
It may be possible to convert your existing bed into a four-poster bed. All you need is to get the carpenter to make a few modifications, and then add on the pillars. If you want to experiment with the four-poster look without actually investing in one or changing an existing bed, try this:
Hang three curtain rods from the ceiling, on the three sides of the bed. You don't need to hang the rods on the side of the bed against the wall. Now all you need to do is purchase readymade curtains from your nearest FabIndia, and you're all set! You could even get away with hanging a single curtain rod above the centre of the bed, and draping the fabric on both sides of the bed.
