Skin Care Tips for Teens

The teenage years are often marked by drastic changes on the skin. Pimples, acne, blemishes, oily patches and red rashes most often occur at this time of adolescence. These skin ailments not only lead to inconvenience, they also affect a teenager’s self esteem. Hence we bring for you skin care tips to follow during the teenage years.

Choose Cosmetics with Care – It is recommended that you visit a dermatologist for advice on the kind of product that will be safe for your skin type. Only then should you purchase cosmetics such as foundation, blush or compact.
  • Go Gentle on the Cleansing – Scrubbing the face hard with a pad or scrub may only get it rid of essential oils. Use a mild cleanser instead and wash the face at least twice a day.
  • Do Not Pick the Face – Picking at, squeezing or pinching pimples or acne on the face will lead to permanent blemishes and scars. Dermatologists say that skin eruptions are common in teen years and rubbing them or even touching them can lead to further aggravation.
  • Be Careful while Shaving – Choose your razors with care. It is recommended that boys use razors only for the face while teenage girls should stay away from the razor unless it is an absolute emergency. There are varieties of blades and razor brands available in the market. Choose yours after much consideration.
  • Sunscreen is a Must – Use a sunscreen of at least SPF 30 whether it is summer or winter! Damage caused by the sun is the first step towards premature ageing. Moreover you do not want sunburns very early on in life! So apply and reapply sunscreen when out in the sun for a prolonged period of time.
  • Keep Skin Hydrated – There is no alternative to water when it comes to proper skin care. People with oily to normal skin must drink eight glasses and teens with dry skin at least ten glasses of water throughout the day to flush out the harmful toxins from the skin, leaving the skin surface glowing and blemish free.
  • Keep Skin Moisturized – We sometimes avoid using a moisturizer when it is hot and humid outside. But it is recommended that you replace an oil based moisturizer with a water based moisturizer for such weather conditions. It is very important to moisturize skin every single day.
