How to get rid of lice

Head lice infest on the scalp of human-beings. In general, they are transmitted from one person to the other through contact, however, in rare cases they are also transmitted through clothes or some other means. Infestations of lice are a common problem among school going kids, but others may also get affected by it. Though the treatment of lice are a lengthy procedure, but you don’t have to necessarily go in for huge investments to deal with the same. Getting rid of adult lice is much simpler when compared to their eggs. In fact, it is because of these nits that winning the battle seems to be an enduring process.

  • As vinegar has the properties to kill the nits, you can use the same for washing your hair.
  • Combine mineral oil and vinegar in equal proportions and apply on the hair. Leave your hair for about one hour and then wash off using a shampoo. Comb your wet hair using an anti-lice comb for removing the unconscious eggs and lice from the hair.
  • Mix tea tree extracts ( 15 drops) with your regular shampoo and apply it on the scalp on a routine basis.
  • Mix tea tree oil extracts (1 tablespoon), olive oil (3 tablespoons) and eucalyptus oil (one teaspoon) and apply it on your scalp and hair. Cover your hair with a plastic bag for about 30 minutes before washing it.
  • Apply mayonnaise on the scalp and hair and leave it overnight. Rinse it thoroughly the next morning. Now use an anti-lice hair comb on the wet hair to remove the nits and lice.
  • Apply a mixture of lemon and butter on your hair and leave it for 15 minutes. Use your regular shampoo and wash your hair thoroughly.
  • Mix one cup of Nigella Sativa and one cup of apple cider vinegar and apply it on the scalp and hair.
Medicated Ways to Get Rid of Lice
  • Triple-X and Pronto are effective drugs for treating lice.
  •  Malathion and Lindane too work well, but bring in a lot of associated side effects as well. For instance, Lindane may cause harm to your nervous system as well as certain areas of your brain. Over and above, misuse or over-dosage may lead to serious problems.
  • Listerine Antiseptic Mouthwash with its antiseptic properties works well for treating lice. It comes with certain essential oils like methyl salicylate, eucalyptol, thymol, alcohol, and menthol that help in getting rid of lice.
Precautions to Take
  • Inspect your hair on a routine basis so as to keep them free of nits and lice.
  • Pay additional care to the neck, hairline as well as areas immediately above the ears.
  • Comb your hair at least two times in a week with a comb dipped in tea tree oil and water. This will help you keep off from the lice and prevent from further outbreak.
  • Use separate face cloths, towels, pillow cases, brushes and bedding. Wash them in hot water on a frequent basis.
  • Use fine toothed comb for removing the lice. Use this comb for brushing your hair at least two times in a day for best results.
