Great Tips on Self Tanning

Great Tips on Self Tanning

While some crave for pale skin, there are others who want to sport a healthy tan to get the perfect sexy beach look! But baking under the sun for hours is not the best option to get the perfect tan. The UV rays of the sun cause more harm to your skin than you can easily repair.
They are the chief reasons of wrinkles, fine lines, premature aging and skin cancer. So we bring for you self tanning tips that do not require basking in the sun for long hours; you can now sit in the shade of your home and get a tanned look!
Opt for a salon tan – If you want the flawless tanned appearance, visiting the nearest salon or spa is your best bet. A self tanner is applied on the body using the airbrush bronzing process. In this process a thin mist of tan is sprayed all over your body and rubbed evenly on the exfoliated skin. However this process is expensive and cannot be afforded by all.
Use a self tanner – Clean and exfoliate your skin using a mild soap and scrub. Do not forget to tie the hair tightly in a ponytail before you start applying the cream tanner. Begin with the area under the eyes. Mix few drops of moisturizer in the tanner before spreading it evenly on the skin of the face and neck. Wait for three hours before sweeping a bronzer on the nose, forehead and cheeks. Also remember to apply tanner on the ears and earlobes. Complete the look by application of sunscreen.
Important Tips to Remember while Tanning at Home
No shaving/waxing – Avoid waxing or shaving body hair 12 hours before you apply a self tanner. This is especially recommended to people with sensitive skin who may develop inflammation or skin rashes otherwise.
Take a patch test – Conduct a patch test on the underside of the elbow 24 to 48 hours before using a self tanner. A sugar derivative called DHA present in self tanners may irritate sensitive skin.
Don’t use deodorants or perfumes – No body sprays or essential oils should be applied on the body 12 hours before using the self tanner. A chemical reaction between the two products interferes with the results that a tanning cream would otherwise provide.
Moisturize skin – It is essential to mix the moisturizer you use in the self tanner or apply it on your body with special concentration on the elbows, knees and heels before you start the process of self tanning. Moisturizers prevent tanners from saturating the skin of the body and thus ensure a consistent tan.
Pay attention to the tanning equipments – Use sponge paintbrushes to distribute the tanning cream evenly on your body. Remember to wash the paintbrush before use. If you are more comfortable using your hands ensure that you do not have colored palms by using a pair of disposable gloves.
Exfoliation is compulsory – Exfoliating the skin is mandatory before self tanning. This is because exfoliation helps to get rid of dead skin cells that may cause uneven coloration or splotches after the application of the tanner.
